Why not write to this "illogical" company and show them that their ads are obnoxious as well as stupid. Maybe they'll make a few changes. Personally I love the girl jumping up and down while the wine doesn't spill! How do we know that there isn't a board underneath the wine glass? (by the way, I recall the original ads in which they claimed they supplied the bedding for the astronauts – they may be supplying our entire armed forces and expeditionary forces by now.)
It could have been the plastic. However, the bed was hard even on the soft settings. Imagine: Put an airmattress in a box (wood or plastic or heavy cardboard, just something unyielding and sturdy enough to hold the air mattress in place). Wrap it in a thin layer of polycotton batting. Now, underinflate it so when you get out of it, you have to crawl over the box's firm side. When you lie on it, you hips and shoulders rest directly on the bottom of the box. If you inflate it to be firmer, it's like sleeping on a brick. There is no comfortable number for me.
When I was in the hospital after giving birth to Chantria, I was partly paralyzed for almost 2 weeks from the spinal. They put me in an airbed that had multiple channels to alter the pressure of the bed – and that bed was comfortable enough as long as I was in it. Getting out was possible with the traction trapeze suspended over it. Now that I'm fully recovered, I think it would still be a challenge to get out of.
I have a co-worker who had a Tempur-pedic bed and she said it formed “hollows” rather quickly and she and her husband ended up replacing it after just a year. I don't know if they bought an off-brand or the original. I've thought about a Tempur-pedic, but the price is rather daunting. Is it really a good mattress? No odors, no “hollows”?

The only time I have slept in a sleep number bed was with two friends of mine, husband and wife: the husband was on one side of me, and his side was set for him. The wife was on the other side, and her side was set for her. I was in the middle and *very* uncomfortable.
The bed on which I have had the best sleep is my Tempur-Pedic, and if something happened to it, I would get another one.]]>
