Mattress Tempur
Which brand of mattress are you using? Anyone using Tempur? Is that as good as it cliams? Howabout Cocomats?
Any advise on a good lasting material?
I rather go for the firmer ones than the softer ones.
I'm a bit of a mattress nerd. Presently I sleep on a Sealy Spring Free king size pillow top. It's similar to the Tempur mattresses but rather than using visco-elastic memory foam it uses laytex. The difference? Laytex has all the "memory" of the tempur material BUT it is not temperature sensitive. Memory foam gets very warm and when it's warm it loses its firmness. Conversely, when it gets cold, it firms up and doesn't provide as much cushion. With laytex you get the support and softness of memory foam with breathability. It's also hypoalergenic. As for coil mattresses, Sealy Posturpeadic and Stearns and Foster are probably the best. I've actually had a chance to tour the factory and it's amazing how much care and pride these people put into their product, and I'm not talking about the suit and ties, I'm talking about the hourly guys and ladies who are actually building the things. The main difference structurally between these two brands and others are the coil. Sealy's coils are slightly taller and slightly thinner guage wire than the stearns so many people think they are a bit softer than the the stearns which have a thicker guage coil. To be true, the coils only provide the foundation and long-lasting support where as all the layers of foam and padding provide the top-feel or level of "comfort" which is all going to differ based on your own perceptions. As for other brands, I believe it's Serta that advertises a uni-coil system or something where all the coils are intertwined with one another. I don't like that idea because it's like a thread in a sweater. Once it starts unravelling the whole thing comes apart. I think if you spend between 1000 and 2000 dollars you should get a mattress that lasts in upwards of 10 to 15 years. Especially if you're investing in some of the higher end sealy's and stearns. Obviously though part of the shelf life of your mattress will be how you treat it. It needs to be on a firm balanced foundation and even though you may think it's a sales gimmick when they tell you you should buy the matching foundation, do it. It's not a gimmick, it's true and it can void your warranty if at some point down the line you have sagging and it's determined that it was on a faulty foundation/box spring. In general I think the Tempurs are really overpriced. You can get a Restonic memory foam mattress for a fraction of the cost and it comes with a better warranty and Sealy also makes a pure memory foam mattress. But like I said, I really suggest you look into the laytex mattresses. Buying a mattress should be a bigger deal than what people seem to think. We spend basically a third of lives in bed. People buy crappy mattresses and keep re-using the same foundation/box-spring and wonder why they have pinched nerves, headaches, fatigue etc etc. Spend the extra money, buy a damn nice mattress. You'll be really glad you did. With the market the way it is, you can get a kick ass mattress on one of those no payments/no interest deals at any number of furniture stores and spread the payments out. You'll thank yourself later. But for my money, I wouldn't bother with Tempur. A lot of hype, great marketing but not worth the price of admission.

Tempur-Pedic Mattress
Does anyone own a tempur-pedic mattress, and does it help?
I have a bad back and want a tempur-pedic mattress, but they are very expensive and I don't want to bother with it if they are not what they claim to be. Anyone own one with back problems?
It really works and i would definently invest in buying one for you back problems they sure did help mine.

I agree about RV beds. We have been traveling in our RV for a year now and the first thing we did is get a new mattress, a tempurpedic, love it! The RV stores are all selling the sleep number beds. The kids don't seem to notice though.
