They can't advertise it if it is not true. I do know that one of the common complaints and memory form is that they tend to sleep warm. For this reason manufacturers have been developing a cool sleeping memory foam. Tempurpedic has developed one that is due to come out soon. If you prefer memory foam stay away from the ones coming out of China. There have been a lot of issues with them. An alternative would be a latex foam mattress. They do sleep cool and you don't feel like you are sleeping in hole, which is how I feel about the memory foam mattresses.

which is better a topper or mattress .or are they the same.
A topper is to be placed on top of the mattress. If your current mattress is still quite new, a topper would be fine. It costs less than a mattress and serves the same purpose of a new mattress.
If your mattress is already quite old and it does not give a firm support to the topper, it is better that you get a new mattress.
Tempurpedic is a great brand, but it is rather expensive. Other well known mattress manufacturers have produced memory foam mattress that are affordable and good too.

Go to your local mattress store to try out the mattresses to have a feel of the mattresses that you are interested in. Some people may prefer a firmer feel, some may prefer a softer feel, so it really on depends on individual's liking.
