Teak Deep Seating Stacks up to the Competition
Teak deep seating, along with other types of deep seating and luxury patio furniture are the way to go. Turn your boring backyard into this summer’s hotspot with an outdoor set that conveys confidence. But how exactly does teak compare to metal, resin and other materials? Be informed before deciding on this major purchase.
Teak
There’s no compromising quality when opting for teak deep seating. And while there are a number of different woods commonly employed in outdoor furniture, including cedar, wicker, oak and pine, class 1 teak is the king of hardwoods. With enough natural protection mechanisms to warrant very little maintenance on the owner’s part, you can’t find a better deal. Teak and wood in general is a classic choice in outdoor furniture. Teak in particular first saw its building use in Asia in the Middle Ages, and then as the preferred material for ship decks. Teak is on average more expensive than other woods and certain other furniture materials, but what you pay upfront you will be saving on the back end by not having to spend more money on pricey cleaners, or worse yet, an entirely new set of patio furniture. This is because the wood in teak deep seating produces its own natural resinous oils which keep the sandy blonde wood looking like new, but also have a more useful benefit. The oils protect against cracking, warping and rotting of the wood is how heavy a wood it is, so a lot of teak deep seating, especially larger sun loungers, comes with affixed wheels for easier mobility. However, that just means it will not fall apart like flimsier construction.
Metal
Like wood, metal is also a classic choice for patio furniture, and there are different kinds of metal that achieve different feels. For example, wrought iron connotes an air of sophistication and old world elegance. At the same time, it is cumbersome and heavy to move. Aluminum, on the other hand, is rising in popularity because it is much lighter, as well as malleable and attractive. Cast and tubular are two types of aluminum that are virtually maintenance free because of how weather-resistant they are. Yet, the downside of metal is that you have a limited color scheme. But look at it this way; you can always make up for that by choosing particularly festive and cheery deep seating cushions to match. Also, like anything metal left outside and exposed to rain and snow, there is of course the risk of rust. This risk is doubled in coastal regions, as saltwater tends to exacerbate the oxidation process. To protect against too much moisture, use waterproof tarps, which fit snugly over furniture and keep it dry when not in use.
Plastic
A relatively new innovation when compared to wood and metal furniture, poly resin deep seating is versatile in that it can be used both indoors and out without looking out of place. Resin is becoming increasingly popular for patio furniture, as it is one of the more modern and experimental media in which designers can try out new things. In addition, a lot of resin furniture is made from recycled plastics, which falls in line nicely with current eco-friendly trends that have in recent years exploded in the consumerism sector. Resin is also attractive for its ability to be manufactured in a vast array of colors that cannot really be replicated with wood or metal construction. It is also simple to clean and waterproof, and good quality models are built to last. Plus, plastic tends to be cheaper than other materials, too. However, the risk with poly resin is that no matter how sturdy it is, there is a chance of breaking and warping from too much exposure to sunlight, heat and other elements. It lacks the same natural sturdiness and lasting power of teak deep seating.
