Another poem - feedback please
?In Sleep
Your eyes are closed, my love. Why do you sleep?
The Sun rose, pale with moon, long, long ago.
Your skin is warm, and yet in day you keep
The sound of your breath delicate and low.
I cannot feel your pulse, my love. And yet
You're next to me, in sheets of satin white.
My memories take me to when we met.
Open your eyes, my love, save sleep for night.
The beating of my own heart wilts away,
And fear grips my soul, but yours is still.
Illuminated with the kiss of day,
I see the stars have moved in for the kill.
Wake now, my love, for death is just a dream,
Where everything that lives is as it seems.
It's a sonnet, I'm a bit addicted to them. I wrote this in about 5-10 minutes in a boring Physics lesson, ha. My friends and I have little competitions. We're that cool.
Technically spot on, but the logical progression of ideas (which a sonnet should have) is shaky, and I'm not at all sure about the meaning of the final "pay-off" couplet.
Also you repeat "my love" too often, as if to simply reach the ten syllables for the line!
I enjoyed your haiku, which convinces me there are better poems within you!
