Pillow Stop Neck
how do i stop cracking my neck?
okay so i've been cracking my neck for about 7 years now, since i was 11. and after awhile, my neck started to hurt if i DIDNT crack it. recently, for the past couple weeks, i have not been able to sleep due to neck pains. and when i crack it, the pain will go away for about 2 minutes. then start hurting again. and its not a sharp pain. its more of an uncomfortable pain sore pain. is it because i've been cracking my neck too much, or maybe the way i sleep? could it be the pillows i'm using?
How long have you been using the same pillow? It could be the way you sleep or you may have pulled a muscle or something in your neck. See your doctor or a chiropractor.

How can I stop getting severe neck pain from sleeping?
I've tried many different styled pillows and different mattresses, but I still continue to wake up with neck and shoulder pain. I tend to sleep on my side but of course I cannot be sure if I am turning a lot in my sleep. I do get frequent migraines which tends to bring on neck pain, but in the mornings it is my neck that hurts first and then a migraine follows. I've visited doctors for my migraines, but no luck with any meds that can help ease my symptoms.
Just curious if anyone else has had these problems.
If nothing else works, I might just opt for an MRI to see if there's an underlying cause.
Lindsey, your problem is not in the mattress or pillow or how you sleep, it is in the muscles in your back and neck. When they get tight they send a message so intense that when the brain gets it all it feels is pain, the headache. To get rid of the pain is to release the muscles that are tight. Here are those releases:
For your neck:
place your hand alongside your head and push your thumb in under your ear and place it on the muscle there. Take your fingers and place them on the back of your neck on the muscles there. Press them together and hold a good amount of pressure on them. Then relax, take a deep breath and exhale. After 30 seconds you should be feeling the muscle going limp under the pressure. Continue to hold until the entire muscle has gone limp, then lean your head forward as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your head there for another 30 seconds.
Back:
Place your left hand on your left knee. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and with your fingertips find the muscle next to your spine. Press on it and hold. Relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. After about 30 seconds there should be a release happening and when it does slowly lower yourself forward onto your right leg. If you can lean over the outside edge of your leg it will be better for your release. Continue holding for a total of one minute. Then release but rest your body there for one minute longer. Then reverse and do the right side.
Do them both once then do this one which is similar to the first one except for the last line:
For your neck:

These releases on the neck may need to be done several times to get all the muscles released and to get them to stay in their new home. Making sure that the muscle next to your skull in back is not tight is one of the keys to this being successful.
This is one of those things that will never show up on a x-ray or MRI or any other diagnostic method the dr. will give you. I have been through this several times myself and ended up feeling that they didn't believe me that I was in pain because they had no machine to tell them that there really is a reason for us feeling the way we do.
