Finding the Best Mattress for Your Best Night’s Sleep
According to most sleep experts, mattresses should be replaced around every ten years. If you have been sleeping on the same mattress for more than ten years, it is probably time to start looking for a new mattress.
Replacing your mattress can make an enormous difference in your life, perhaps even more than you would have ever expected. Doctors have come to believe that many health problems are related to poor sleep patterns, and many sleep disturbances can be traced directly to an uncomfortable mattress. Unfortunately, finding the “best mattress” is not as easy as checking a list to find out which mattress is rated the highest.
Mattresses are highly individualized. For instance, the mattress that is most comfortable for your brother may not be the best mattress for your sleeping patterns. Side sleepers and back sleepers each need different specifics in their mattresses. So how do you choose a good mattress when there is no best of list of the “top mattresses for a good night’s sleep”?
Start with the right size
Size is more important than most people believe. Twin beds are both shorter and narrower than full size beds. If you are taller than 5’2”, a twin bed is most likely too small for you. Most people should have graduated to a full or double size bed by the time they are sixteen. Anything smaller does not give you enough room to move around comfortably in your sleep. In addition, if you are approaching six feet, you should probably consider a queen or king size mattress to give yourself enough room.
Likewise, a double size bed, also referred to as a full size bed, in actuality is not really double at all and certainly not big enough for two people to both sleep comfortably. Consider the firmness factor

The mattress that you choose should be firm enough to support your body weight and also keep your spine straight while you lie down. If you like to sleep on your back, you probably want to sleep on a firmer mattress than a side sleeper. If you are more heavy-set, chances are that you will need a firm mattress for support that has extra padding to cushion joints and pressure points.
